PostgreSQL: Your New Favorite Database?

Today there are many high quality SQL databases to choose from: MS SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQLite to name a few.  They have different strengths and weaknesses.  PostgreSQL has an astounding array of strengths and few weaknesses, yet in many circles is relatively unknown.  We’ll talk about what it is, where it came from, and why perhaps it should be your default database choice going forward.

Summary: Today there are many high-quality SQL databases to choose from: MS SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQLite to name a few. They have different strengths and weaknesses. PostgreSQL has an astounding array of strengths and few weaknesses, yet in many circles is relatively unknown. We’ll talk about what it is, where it came from, and why perhaps it should be your default database choice going forward.

About Charles: Charles has lived in Sioux Falls for 7 years. He has an incredible wife and 4 children, the oldest having just turned 5. He’s busy. He has been programming for 25 years and considers himself a software engineer. But over the years has worn many hats—both literally and figuratively. Early onset baldness stoked his passion for literal hats especially flatcaps, whereas the need for a flexibility in technical skills prompted the variety of figurative hats: Developer, Software Architect, Database / Server / Network Administrator, System Operations Manager, etc. Learning new things and implementing clever solutions makes him tick.
